Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe said the erroneous release of a Lubbock inmate this past week was abnormal.
“When I was first notified of this and told we just released a U.S. Marshal prisoner, my actual first reaction was, ‘Man, did we have somebody do something they shouldn’t have done? Do we have somebody who is complicit in this?’ ” Rowe said.
“U.S. Marshal holds are probably the easiest thing in the world to deal with.”

Officials are still looking for a man who stole several items from a Walmart in Lubbock last month.
According to surveillance video provided by the Lubbock Police Department, the suspect left the Walmart at 6315 82nd Street on June 20 with a shopping cart full of items. The suspect was wearing a blue Dallas Cowboys jersey with the number “23” written on it as well as a dark cap and blue jeans. He is described as a black male 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighs between 175 and 180 pounds, according to a release.
The Brownfield Police Department is investigating after a man was found shot to death Saturday morning.
Officers responded to a call that Christavian Jerrod Baker was found non-responsive about 8:35 a.m. in the 500 block of North 5th Street, according to Police Chief Tony Serbantez. Upon arrival, officers found Baker suffered from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead.
Baker was 37 years old.
Detectives are still investigating it as a homicide and are following several leads, Serbantez said Saturday evening.

POST — An inmate left the Garza County Jail on Tuesday on a rare public recognizance bond.
Casey Don Cureton, 20, remains charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.
“We don’t do a lot of PR bonds,” Garza County Sheriff Terry Morgan said.
Cureton’s bond is $100,000.
In most bond arrangements, a suspect must either pay the entire amount before he or she can be released, or pay a certain percentage to a bail-bond company. Failure to appear at a scheduled court date typically results in bond revocation.
