Lubbock PD arrest 2 in gun store robbery; 2 more suspects still at large

Two suspects were in custody Thursday evening, while two more were still at large after a local gun store was robbed earlier this week.

Officers gathered enough information to obtain an arrest warrant for four suspects, including Dequan Deshawn Willard, 20; Jacob Leslie Pereida, 18; Jonah Isiah Garza, 20; and Jamie Shakur Garcia, 18, according to a news release from the Lubbock Police Department.

Testimony begins Monday in Dixon capital murder trial

Dr. Thomas Michael Dixon returns to court Monday for another shot at agruing for his innocence.

A 12-member jury with two alternates will be sworn in to hear testimony in Dixon's second capital murder trial.

Dixon, an Amarillo plastic surgeon, is accused of hiring David Neal Shepard in July 2012 to kill Dr. Joseph Sonnier III in his home in the 4600 block of 22nd Street.

Sonnier, the chief pathologist for Covenant Medical Center, was dating Dixon's former girlfriend, Richelle Shetina.

Suspect in skull mask robs Lubbock liquor store

Police on Thursday released a surveillance photo of a masked suspect who robbed a liquor store in Lubbock last week.

Patrol officers responded about 8:20 p.m. Oct. 22, to reports of a robbery at All Star Liquor, located in the 4500 block of 34th Street.

The suspect, who was wearing skull mask, a dark grey hoodie, was armed with a rifle or shotgun and demanded the clerk give him the cash in the register, according to a news release. The clerk complied and the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect stole $1,100, according to a police report.

Former cop gets 3 life sentences for sexually abusing stepdaughter

LAMESA — Antonio De La Cruz will likely spend the rest of his days behind bars for sexually abusing his stepdaughter multiple times.

District Judge Carter Schildknecht sentenced the 48-year-old former South Plains narcotics officer on Thursday to life sentences for each of his three convictions — continuous sexual abuse of a child and two counts aggravated sexual assault of a child.

A Dawson County jury of seven men and five women deliberated about 30 minutes Wednesday before returning guilty verdicts on each of those charges.

LPD: Subway at 50th robbed Thursday

Lubbock police responded to an aggravated robbery at Subway in the 1300 block of 50th Street Thursday night, according to a statement by police.

A man pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded cash from the register and safe, according to the statement.

The robber then fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash, the statement said.

The robber is described as a black male, wearing a black jacket and black bandana covering his face, according to the statement.

21-year-old arrested on DWI charge after crashing car into residence

Lubbock officials arrested a 21-year-old man who attempted to flee the scene after his vehicle crashed into a residence.

Elder Rojas, 21, was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center Saturday evening on a DWI charge and a speeding charge.

Officials said he fled a crash, but left his vehicle at the scene after driving into a residence Saturday evening in the 3400 block of Elkhart Avenue.

Lubbock Sheriff's Office investigating 2 unrelated homicides Halloween weekend

The Lubbock Sheriff’s Office is investigating two homicides after a body was found in a burning car Halloween night and human remains were found in a small body of water on Sunday.

The homicides appear to be unrelated, but neither victim had been identified as of Sunday evening, according to a news release from LSO.

A few minutes before midnight, at 11:56 p.m. Saturday, the LSO was notified of a vehicle on fire on East 19th Street, about 1.5 miles east of Loop 289 in East Lubbock.

Lubbock Sheriff's Department continues investigation in weekend homicides

The Lubbock Sheriff’s Office is still investigating a pair of deaths suspected to be homicides this weekend, said Lt Brian Taylor.

One unidentified body was found in a vehicle that was engulfed in flames just before midnight Saturday near East 19th Street about 1.5 miles east of East Loop 289 in Lubbock County.

Officers received a call reporting shots fired about 9:20 p.m., and officials think the two may be related, according to Sunday’s story.
