Lubbock Fire Rescue crews are going through a training exercise Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport.
LFR Battalion Chief Rob Keinast said the live-fire training will go on until noon.
According to an airport news release, the training will produce flames and smoke that will be visible from the communities surrounding the airport.
John Gonzalez said while he is honored to receive an award today, Dec. 5, in Austin, the recognition should go to the first responders who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Gonzalez, a Texas Department of Public Safety corporal, and Lubbock Fire Rescue Chief Mike Kemp will be recognized by DPS officials for their role in honoring fallen first responders in the region.
Kemp will be presented the Texas Department of Public Safety Director’s Award and Gonzalez will receive the Medal of Merit during the Public Safety Commission meeting.
