AUSTIN — Richard Miles was 19 years old when he was wrongly convicted of murder and attempted murder and served 15 years in a Dallas jail before DNA tests proved his innocence.
His dream is that no innocent person in Texas goes through the same ordeal.
“My dream is that no one goes to prison wrongfully,” Miles, now 38, said during a Monday visit to the Texas State Capitol. “No one should endure being scrutinized, no one should endure your self-esteem, your self-worth being stripped from you.”

AUSTIN — The Texas House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 23, gave preliminary approval to House Bill 166, a measure that would create the Timothy Cole Exoneration Review Commission.
The nine-member panel would examine wrongful convictions to determine what errors prosecutors or defense attorneys committed during the investigation of a case or during the trial.
It was a voice vote, but final passage of the measure, scheduled for Wednesday, April 24, will be a record vote.
All Saints Episcopal School has added officers from the Lubbock Police Department to its array of security measures.
“We’re not reacting to events,” Headmaster Mike Bennett said on Tuesday, April 23. “We’ve been thinking about it for some years.”
Police will work on their off days for the private school, an arrangement Sgt. Jason Lewis, the LPD’s public information officer, said is common.
Former Texas Tech head football coach Mike Leach has apparently decided to let the nearly 3-year-old legal battle over his 2009 firing fade without a last shot.
A deadline for appealing District Judge William Sowder’s February decision that Tech had not violated Leach’s civil rights in the firing passed with no action by Leach’s lawyers.
A notice of appeal needed to be filed 30 days after Sowder signed the final judgment in the case.
The Avalanche-Journal made several attempts to seek a comment from Leach or his lawyers regarding the case, but no comment was provided.
