Lubbock police report an officer was attacked by a dog as he attempted to arrest suspect at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Nothin’ Butt Smokes.

Officer Garrett Winters was responding to a suspicious subject at the smoke shop when he was attacked by a dog belonging to the subject, Larry Don Jordan, 54,

Winters fought the dog while simultaneously placing Jordan under arrest, according to a police news release. Other officers arrived to help take Jordan into custody.

Odessa woman, 66, killed in Wednesday night wreck in Hockley County

A 66-year-old Odessa woman died Wednesday night, Feb. 19, in Hockley County after a two-vehicle wreck.

Evelina Velazquez was pronounced dead about 9:15 p.m. at Covenant Hospital Levelland after the vehicle she was riding in rear-ended a pickup truck at the intersection of U.S. 385 and FM 1585, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.

Troopers responded to the scene about 8:20 p.m.

Trey Coleman was already late for work when he found himself sitting in rush hour traffic in Dallas.

He changed lanes, possibly, he admits later, cutting off another driver. That driver, probably also running late, responded aggressively. Coleman got angrier and reacted; the other driver kept escalating too.

Then traffic in Coleman’s lane stopped, so he did. Traffic in the other driver’s lane kept going, but instead of pulling ahead, he pulled up next to Coleman and rolled down his window.

Lubbock residents sentenced to prison for counterfeith money, possession of meth

U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings handed down a number of sentences in federal court on Friday, Feb. 21.

Geory Shannon Smith, who pleaded guilty on Aug. 14 to one count of passing counterfeit U.S. currency, was sentenced to eight months in prison and two years of probation.

Brian James Melcher, who pleaded guilty on Sept. 11 to one count of possession with intent to distribute meth and aiding and abetting, was sentenced to 175 months in prison.
